EMPLOYER BRAND
The zero-carbon race - Delta's cycling around the island project
Delta's 50th anniversary activities
Text by Human Resources Division 2022/02
In the past few years, Delta's Human Resources Division has continued to promote its corporate brand and cultivate team cohesion, successfully building its employer brand image and winning numerous domestic and international awards. This year, Delta Brand News Bi-Monthly added a new "Employer Brand" column. From employee relations, campus recruitment, to corporate culture reshaping, the Human Resources Division introduces the heart of employer branding communication with a series of articles. In the first issue, we share the recent success of our 50th anniversary "Cycle around the island project" completed by our colleagues in Taiwan. This project demonstrates the implementation of a carbon-reduced lifestyle.

Not just a challenge, but a profound life experience"When I was selected to go around the island this year, I was so happy that I couldn't sleep! I really looked forward to the upcoming event!"  A colleague from IABG Taoyuan Plant 3 was very excited about participating in Delta's event, saying,  "It was obvious that the company attaches great importance to employee welfare activities and encourages a sports culture, especially in the past few years. In the past, there was a cycling club at the Taoyuan plant, but activities gradually stopped. Now the company is taking the lead, and colleagues are taking part." The 50th anniversary series of activities were initiated by the cycling around the island event, which attracted hundreds of employees to register as soon as it was announced. The event also became a hot topic of discussion among senior executives and colleagues. To achieve this daunting task, the participating colleagues built up their confidence through daily practice, forming practice groups, and selflessly sharing their techniques with each other.

On the day of departure, Delta's Chief Human Resources Officer, Mr. Charles Chen (Right 3), and the General Manager of Power Supply and System Business Group (PSBG), Mr. Jimmy Yiin (Left 1), were there to cheer and present Delta's flag to boost the morale of the team.

The four-day "Factory Connecting" event started from the Taipei headquarters and stopped at each of Delta's plants to convey the "One Delta" feeling of unity. Despite the rain, the cheering team formed by the factory staff still enthusiastically waved Delta flags to cheer on the riders who came through. A senior colleague that had been with Delta for over 25 years had the opportunity to visit Delta's Tainan plant during this event and was very touched. The plant had received the highest level of recognition with the Taiwan EEWH Diamond certification and is the first green building in Taiwan.  "I've always wanted to cycle around the island, but it was hard to find the time between work and family. I'd like to thank the company for organizing this event, as well as the team that planned this event and the cheerleaders from each plant for their warm hospitality."

We don't know each other, but we can do great things togetherContinuing with the "Factory Connecting—Love Delta" sentiment, the 50 Delta riders proudly wore the jerseys that symbolize Delta's spirit and carry the support of their supervisors and colleagues, as well as the encouragement of their families and friends. The riders brought this support with them as they cycled around the island to learn more about the land that nurtured us, and at the same time, to help reduce carbon emissions. Using the Environmental Protection Administration's carbon calculator, it is estimated that a 10-day bicycle tour for 50 people alone could reduce carbon emissions by 3,000 kilograms. Also, the meals that the riders consumed during the tour were made with local ingredients, and they used eco-friendly tableware and exclusive eco-friendly water bottles to protect our planet.

Delta's riders came from different business units and plants and broke through age and gender restrictions. From day one, some of them volunteered to help their partners with less experience or stamina by being the windbreaker, giving guidance, and cheering them on, making teamwork the most beautiful and precious part of the journey. The Delta 50 riders fully demonstrated the team spirit of "one person can ride fast, but a group of people can ride far." Everyone gained strength from each other's belief in never giving up and persevering to the end. Traveling around the island is an unattainable dream for many people. Our colleagues thanked the company for creating this wonderful opportunity to take the first step with courage and honor. One colleague said, "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, and every step is a step closer to the goal. Cycling is the same. I believe that life and work are also the same, too!"

A series of welcome ceremonies were held at Delta's plants during the "Factory Connecting" event, and senior executives were present to offer encouragement and support.

To celebrate Delta's 50th anniversary, the Human Resources Division organized a series of celebratory events in Taiwan, starting with a charity run in early 2021, followed by the Dance for Delta recorded by Delta people worldwide, and an online game—Delta Time Train and Evolution Planet—to attract Delta colleagues from all over the world to communicate online. The Delta 50th Anniversary Festivities was a memorable event for all the employees. Nearly 9,000 Delta employees and their friends and relatives participated in the event, demonstrating once again Delta employees' solidarity and sense of identity with the company. The Cycling Around the Island Project is the perfect ending to the 50th anniversary series of activities, and we welcome the next 50 years. Pursuing excellence and sustainable development is the highest purpose of running a business. In the new year, the Human Resources Division will usher in a new era of the 3Es (innovative Employee experience, Empower employees, and increase their social engagement to the Earth) to create a more diversified and innovative employee experience for all our colleagues!
