Delta partners with Taiwan Quintain Steel<>to build 80MW large-scale energy storage system

As the share of renewable energy grows and energy-intensive sectors like AI and semiconductors drive rapid electricity demand, grid stability and power supply resilience have become top priorities in the global energy transition. Energy storage systems (ESS) are now vital for grid frequency regulation. When integrated with solar power, fuel cells, and advanced energy management platforms, they form microgrid architectures that deliver both energy autonomy and flexible dispatch capabilities.

Driven by these market dynamics, enterprise demand for large-scale energy storage and microgrids, ranging from power trading platforms to industrial park energy management, is accelerating rapidly. Partnering with Quintain Steel, Delta has built an 80MW / 305MWh large-scale energy storage facility in Tainan’s Madou Industrial Park. Now officially grid-connected to participate in Taipower’s Power Trading Platform, the site provides Enhanced Dynamic Regulation (E-dReg) services for energy shifting and frequency regulation reserve, serving as a vital transmission-grade energy storage hub in Southern Taiwan.

Expanding from steel to energy: Setting a new benchmark for grid resilience

With more than half a century of heritage in the steel industry, Quintain Steel has actively expanded into the energy sector in recent years, extending its operational expertise into energy infrastructure. To address grid dispatch demands from rising renewable adoption and align with long-term energy transition goals, Quintain Steel invested in large-scale energy storage to enter Taiwan’s power market and advance its corporate sustainability agenda.

However, grid-scale energy storage projects involve complex system integration while demanding strict standards for battery safety, system reliability, operational efficiency, and ongoing maintenance. As facilities scale to tens of megawatts, decisions around equipment selection, energy management strategies, and real-time monitoring directly govern long-term operational performance. Leveraging deep technical expertise in power electronics and energy infrastructure along with proven project execution, Delta provided Quintain Steel with a turnkey energy storage solution engineered for safety, reliability, and sustained operational returns.

Deploying large-scale storage: Supporting power trading and grid stability

Spanning approximately 11,570 m², the facility features an installed capacity of 80MW / 305MWh and an energy storage capacity exceeding 305MWh, enough to supply the daily electricity needs of roughly 30,000 households. To satisfy stringent grid frequency regulation and power trading requirements, Delta integrated its liquid-cooled 3.4MW Power Conditioning System (PCS), M Series battery energy storage system, and DeltaGrid energy management platform into a complete transmission-grade architecture.

The site is equipped with 24 liquid-cooled PCS, and 240 M-series battery energy storage cabinets

The liquid-cooling design optimizes system efficiency and maintains battery operational stability, while the DeltaGrid energy management system performs real-time monitoring and dispatch. This enables the facility to respond instantly to grid demand and deliver dependable E-dReg frequency regulation reserve services. Through this hardware and software integration, the project supports Taiwan’s power market operations and reinforces grid resilience and power quality across Southern Taiwan.

24/7 intelligent monitoring: Establishing a high-safety operating model

As energy storage capacities expand, safety and operational stability remain paramount. To meet the demanding oversight requirements of large-scale facilities, Delta implemented an online war room mechanism powered by a 24/7 real-time monitoring platform to track equipment status, system performance, and automated alerts continuously.

Every element—from individual battery modules and power conversion equipment to the overarching energy management platform—operates under a unified management framework. This ensures rigorous safety and dispatch oversight for every kilowatt-hour. By enabling preventive maintenance and remote management, Delta enhances system availability, lowers long-term operational risks, and reduces management costs for facility owners.

Moving from utility storage to microgrids: Building a resilient energy future

Utility-scale energy storage is a foundational step in the broader energy transition. As commercial and industrial enterprises demand higher energy self-sufficiency and power reliability, microgrids are emerging as a core architectural direction for future energy networks. Delta continues to expand its microgrid portfolio, pairing energy storage systems with solar generation, fuel cells, solid-state transformers, and energy management software to create self-contained, intelligent energy systems. Featuring modular designs and flexible scalability, these solutions adapt to diverse industry needs to optimize energy efficiency and power resilience.

To serve global requirements across different scales, Delta maintains a comprehensive portfolio of energy storage solutions: the C Series for commercial and industrial applications, the M Series for large-scale energy storage projects, and the U Series for utility-grade applications. The successful deployment of Quintain Steel’s 80MW facility highlights the essential role of large-scale storage in supporting grid stability and power trading, while validating Delta’s end-to-end integration capabilities across energy infrastructure and microgrids. As renewable energy penetration rises, integrated solutions combining energy storage, smart dispatch, and active management will remain vital drivers in advancing Taiwan toward a low-carbon, highly resilient energy future.
