SPECIAL REPORT
Delta EMEA starts operations in new energy-efficient LEED gold-certified green building in Helmond, Netherlands
Text by EMEA 2022/12
With the rise of carbon reduction awareness, countries are trying to reduce energy consumption from industrial manufacturing, transportation, and electricity. Buildings account for one-third of the world's overall energy consumption and have the potential to reduce carbon by up to 90%. The U.S. Green Building Council has awarded Delta 16 LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certifications for its green building concepts and the energy-efficient designs implemented in its factory and donated buildings. This issue's special report will introduce our newest office building in Helmond, Netherlands, which uses smart energy-efficient solutions to create a green building with a low-carbon and environment-friendly design.

Building the LEED gold-certificated building
Delta's new EMEA building is located in Helmond, Netherlands, and is Delta's 32nd green building. The new building combines a green building design with Delta's smart solutions, and compared to conventional buildings, it can save 56.84% of annual electricity usage (Note*). Its design has been certified as a LEED Gold Green Building by the U.S. Green Building Council. LEED is a green building certification widely and internationally used to evaluate and recognize buildings that meet specific green requirements or standards. A structure is assessed for the following eight aspects: Sustainable Sites, Water Efficiency, Energy and Atmosphere, Location and Transportation, Materials and Resources, Indoor Environmental Quality, Innovation and Design Process, and Regional Priority Credits.

The engineers involved in planning and constructing the building believe that to achieve the LEED certification, they need to consider various factors from different perspectives at the beginning of the design process and select LEED-qualified vendors to meet the requirements for all eight aspects of the LEED Gold evaluation.

Delta's top management ,including Chairman Yancey Hai(Mid.) and CEO Ping Cheng (Right third), officially inaugurate our Delta Helmond Green Building with VIP guests.

Facility Engineer at Delta Electronics EMEA region:「Because LEED gold is such an achievement we need to address most of the points. We went of course for installation of all Delta products concerning building automation. So in terms of location and transportation, that meant having bicycle facilities, reduced parking footprint and green vehicles. Concerning the building, we tried to achieve all we could, including having rainwater management installed.」
The 4055-square meter LEED Gold-certified Helmond green building is expected to achieve over 56% of annual electricity savings.

Covering a surface area of around 4,055 square meters, the new building is expected to house 150 employees. The facility will support Delta's future businesses in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. It will also offer product testing and technical services, providing various solutions for customers to quickly learn about Delta's total solutions, both in the showroom and in operations.

Setting foot in a technology hotspot to create innovative and energy-efficient green buildings  Helmond Automotive Campus is a technology hub for the industrial and automotive industries in the Netherlands. Delta has developed strategic partnerships with the academia to integrate into local ecosystems and cultures, such as industry-academia exchanges and joint R&D projects with local schools, including Eindhoven Technical University and Fontys Hogeschool. Together with the EMEA head office in Hoofddorp, Delta's new facility will help accelerate the development of its EMEA business and become a key location for promoting low-carbon mobility and sustainable cities.
Ms. Elly Blanksma, Mayor of Helmond, presented the LEED Gold Green Building Certification to Mr. Dalip Sharma, Delta EMEA's President(Right).

“Everything on the Automotive Campus revolves around innovation and technology, and that’s why we feel at home here”, said Dalip Sharma, President and General Manager of Delta Electronics EMEA.

The new green building in Helmond is a showcase for Delta’s growing portfolio of smart energy-saving products and solutions:
1. Building Automation Solutions: The Energy Online building energy management system, constantly monitors energy consumption on the premises, while sensors and controllers from Austrian-based LOYTEC and Canadian-based Delta Controls, both Delta Group companies, help HVAC and lighting systems adapt automatically to the number of people in specific areas of the building. Delta’s UNOnext indoor air quality monitoring systems are also supporting the Helmond office. Building access control surveillance is facilitated by systems from Delta’s subsidiary VIVOTEK, including fisheye network cameras as well as people counting cameras. In the parking area, a license plate recognition system and Delta’s LED streetlights are also installed for optimal security.

2. Smart Energy Solutions: A 133 kW solar PV system with Delta’s high-efficiency M70A series PV inverters and 360 solar panels generates renewable electricity for the Helmond building, sufficient to reach net-zero energy status during sunny days.

3. EV Charging Solutions: Both visitors and employees can also recharge their electric vehicles with Delta’s own fast DC and AC EV chargers, including the AC Max, which boasts up to 22kW AC power output, as well as a compact, aesthetic and easy-to-install design, thus, ideal for commercial and residential applications. The Delta AC MAX Smart combines efficient 3-phase charging of up to 22kW with integrated Ethernet and Wi-Fi interfaces to cater for a wide range of applications. Every AC MAX Smart is equipped with an internal cellular modem. The plug-and-play design reduces installation and commissioning time, is ideal for commercial and residential applications.
