Promoting the global ESG Training Program: Delta cultivates cross-departmental sustainable talents
Text by Corp. comm 2024/04
In view of rapid changes in global sustainability trends, heightened customer concerns, and increasingly stringent regulatory requirements for sustainability information disclosure, the Human Resources Department collaborated with the Corporate Sustainability Development Department to establish the Global ESG Training Program in 2022. Our aim is to cultivate cross-departmental sustainable talents at Delta Electronics by establishing systematic, diversified, and multilingual courses. This not only fosters internal cultural consensus but also accelerates the implementation of various sustainable projects, thereby realizing the Company's philosophy of sustainable management.

Aligning business strategy with sustainable development: Developing Delta's sustainable talent cultivation roadmap
As a core philosophy, Delta is committed to integrating business strategy and sustainable development. Cultivating sustainable talent is one of the key factors in realizing this concept. The course of the Global ESG Training Program covers three aspects: environment, social, and governance. As a result, the heads of the six functional departments, including Sustainable Development, Human Resources, Finance, RBA, Supply Chain, and Energy Management Services, were convened to serve as committee chairs. Together with the ESG managers from all regions around the world, they jointly defined the core competencies required for sustainable talents under the leadership of the Chief Sustainability Officer.

The Global ESG Training Program is Delta's first cross-departmental, cross-regional, and cross- functional committee. Therefore, multiple brainstorming meetings were held during the initial preparation phase to discuss how to operate such a large and multifaceted education and training system.

The ESG course is progressive, starting from the cultivation of basic knowledge to professional skills and then to practical application and value chain communication. The course content can be divided into categories such as stakeholder communication, ESG literacy, carbon management, research , and R&D and business opportunities. There is also collaboration with other training program to integrate sustainability concepts into professional courses across different departments, gradually developing a dedicated roadmap for talent development at Delta.
The HR and ESG teams held brainstorming meetings to discuss how to operate the multi-faceted training program.

Internalizing ESG knowledge and skills to expand green energy and sustainable business opportunities
In the face of the challenges posed by global warming and climate change, businesses must consider the long-term impact on society and the environment while seeking profit and take more proactive measures to reduce carbon emissions. Through ESG training, our colleagues can be guided to communicate Delta's ESG practices with various stakeholders more confidently, facilitating the establishment of sustainable partnerships with businesses and clients, and thereby generating more business opportunities.

In addition, there are also opportunities to explore new business directions and identify sustainable business opportunities for the Company. In recently established new business units, the carbon management knowledge accumulated through the promotion of ESG projects has been used to develop greenhouse gas inventory systems, Renewable Energy Wheeling program software, and more. Combined with the Company's existing energy management expertise and various energy-saving solutions, Delta is able to provide comprehensive integrated services and seize green energy and sustainable business opportunities.

ESG project drivers: Together toward net zero
In response to international carbon reduction initiatives, Delta is committed to achieving RE100 by 2030 and working towards the SBT net-zero target by 2050. As such, a number of cross-departmental sustainability projects are being promoted internally, including product carbon footprint, Scope 3 carbon emission reduction, circular economy, and more. Comprehensive education and training are key elements to ensuring the successful implementation of projects. Through the Global ESG Training Program, effective and systematic training courses can be provided for participating colleagues. For example, the series of courses on product carbon footprint and circular economy are designed to analyze the carbon emissions of products or services at different stages of their life cycle for colleagues in procurement, research and development, manufacturing, and sales. From this analysis, we can identify opportunities for process improvement, energy savings, and carbon reduction.
A total of 409 participants from the business group took part in the Circular Economy Workshop to collectively identify carbon reduction business opportunities.

Localized and multilingual courses are offered in parallel worldwide
Delta has a worldwide presence.. The laws and regulations, trends, and emphasis on carbon reduction vary from country to country. A standardized course is sometimes difficult to apply universally. Since Delta has ESG managers in all six major regions responsible for analyzing national laws and regulations and promoting related projects, they are also members of the Global ESG Training Program committee. This enables them to utilize the foundation and experience gained from training courses provided by headquarters to further design and incorporate localized elements to address the challenges and opportunities of different regions. The committee also plans to offer online courses in multiple languages on the HR Academy platform to promote global ESG talent development.

The ESG Training Program formally commenced in 2023. At the beginning of the year, 18 courses were planned. However, in the process of promoting ESG projects, the committee has been continuously analyzing new knowledge and experiences, such as the newly released European Union Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and China's green electricity purchase experience. We hope to share these insights with everyone as soon as possible so that they can be put to good use in our work. Driven by such beliefs, a total of 32 classes were held by the end of the year, with a cumulative attendance of as many as 3,196, far exceeding the original expectations. The course offerings of the Global ESG Training Program for 2024 has expanded to include 13 topics and 62 courses.

Delta's ESG Global Training Program is not only an educational training system but also an important tool for the Company to promote sustainable development. Through comprehensive course design, effective ESG content communication, and cross-departmental collaborative project promotion, the Global ESG Training Program has become an important driver for Delta in achieving its sustainability goals.
