The 21th Beijing-Taiwan Science and Technology Forum was held in Beijing on August 23, with the theme, “Science and technology cooperation boosts China-Taiwan relationship”. The forum has been inviting heavyweight guests from various domains such as economy and technology from both sides over the years, and it has become a key platform for economic exchange. Delta’s founder and honorary chairman Bruce Cheng was invited by the Taiwan Affairs Office of Beijing Municipal People's Government to deliver a speech. Mr. Bruce Cheng said that there has been rapid progress in various areas since the reform and opening-up of China, which is very encouraging. With the increasing global competition, such as the reckless trade war launched by Donald Trump, the President of the United States, it has generated a huge impact on the technology industry for both sides. However, this has also stimulated enterprises, as it serves as an opportunity for them to know which areas they need to improve on and be aware of the need to speed up on research and development of core technologies. It is in fact beneficial in the long run. Delta and our customers and suppliers are indeed deeply affected by the China-US trade war, and the impact will continue. Hence, we need good policy leadership and assistance.
