The launch event for the 2025 Delta Cup International Solar Building Design Competition, themed "Sunshine · Urban Renewal," along with the award ceremony for the 2024 competition, was grandly held in Beijing. In response to the urban development transition from "incremental expansion" to "stock optimization," and to implement the goals of urban renewal while focusing on green, low-carbon, and sustainable development concepts, this competition set two competition tasks: the "Urban Renewal Project of Beijing Huguosi Street" and the "Urban Renewal Project of No.2 Blast Furnace, Beijing Shougang Park." Through the promotion of industrial heritage regeneration and the transformation of historical and cultural districts, the aim is to enhance urban spatial activation and ecological restoration. This includes exploring pathways for the integration of low-carbon technologies, such as solar energy, with urban fabric, improving the energy efficiency of existing buildings and the quality of spatial usage. The initiative seeks to gather the strengths of industry, government, academia, and research sectors to collaboratively outline a blueprint for sustainable urban development, injecting green momentum and innovative thinking into urban renewal.
Delta's Chief Brand Officer, Shan-Shan Guo, stated that Delta practices sustainable development through technology by providing clean, efficient, and reliable energy-saving solutions. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Delta Cup competition, as well as two decades of Delta’s steadfast dedication to sustainability and its ongoing efforts to advance green building practices through concrete action. Over the past two decades, Delta has built 35 green buildings and 2 green data centers worldwide. Through the Delta Cup competition, we have fostered generations of young talent in green building design, contributing to the industry's sustainable future. This year’s theme, "Sunshine · Urban Renewal," reflects emerging trends in societal development. Aligned with government policy priorities, it also aspires to offer valuable practical examples and innovative ideas that can serve as meaningful references for future urban renewal initiatives.
Academician of the China Academy of Engineering, Chief Scientist of China Construction Technology Group, Chief Architect of the China Architecture Design & Research Group, and Head of the Expert Review Panel for the Delta Cup International Solar Building Design Competition, Kai Cui, remarked that the Delta Cup has now spanned two decades and successfully held 13 competitions. He expressed sincere appreciation to Bruce Cheng, Founder of Delta Electronics, for his longstanding and unwavering support of green development in China. Twenty years ago, the use of solar energy in architectural design was still in its infancy and attracted limited attention within the architectural community. Today, it has not only seen widespread adoption but also become a key element in the aesthetic dimension of architecture. Kai Cui looks forward to the continued support of the China Architecture Design & Research Group for the development of the Green Building Innovation Competition, promoting its expansion to a broader stage.Academician of China Academy of Engineering Kai Cui hopes to enhance the Delta Cup competition as a larger and better platform for innovation in green building.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by numerous experts and scholars from the fields of architecture, urban renewal, and green technology, including representatives from the China Construction Technology Group, , the National Building Green and Low Carbon Technology Innovation Center, China Architecture Design & Research Group, the National Housing and Living Environment Engineering Technology Research Center , and Beijing Shougang Construction Investment Co., Ltd.
