ExxonMobil building implements Delta Controls for enhanced smart building management
Text by DGC 2025/04

ExxonMobil is one of the largest publicly traded oil and petrochemical companies in the world. Recently, it established the first wholly-owned chemical research and development center by an American company in Guangdong Province, the Daya Bay Research and Development Center, with a total investment of more than US$10 billion. This initiative aims to promote ExxonMobil's business expansion in the Asia-Pacific region and globally, while injecting new vitality into the green petrochemical industry.

Delta Controls has implemented the new generation Red5 series to deliver a comprehensive Building Management System (BMS) solution for the Center. This solution enables real-time monitoring and control of systems, including heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC); gas compression; vacuum; natural gas; and water supply and drainage. It facilitates unified management of building energy consumption while ensuring the safety and stability of equipment, enhancing operational efficiency, and driving energy conservation and reduced consumption.

As major energy consumers, oil and petrochemical companies face significant challenges when it comes to going green. Such enterprises must take the initiative to respond to these challenges, and the deployment of an efficient BMS is an essential part of this. Leveraging its extensive experience in building control, Delta has successfully implemented the next-generation Red5 series of solutions, integrated with enteliWEB. Using the BACnet communication protocol, this integration enables comprehensive and smart monitoring and management of seven individual buildings and their associated outdoor facilities at the ExxonMobil Daya Bay Research and Development Center, effectively reducing energy consumption and supporting the company's green transformation efforts.

Delta Controls Red5 series helps ExxonMobil unify the management of building energy consumption and improve operational efficiency.

Three key highlights of the Red5 series solutions:
A new generation of controllers, powered by AI, with strong integration capabilities

The AI recognition capabilities of the Red5 series controllers have played a significant role in the project, with this AI functionality utilized throughout the process to achieve remote app configuration and debugging. Additionally, integration with AI tools such as ChatGPT can facilitate smart fault alarm and analysis systems. This practical application of AI technology has injected new momentum into the development of Delta's Building Automation & Building Monitoring System (BA&BMS).

With the BACnet/SC communication protocol, information security is ensured
The BACnet/SC protocol incorporates one of the latest security protocols, TLS, thereby elevating the security level of BACnet to national classified standards. As a new type of data link layer, it replaces BBMD devices and provides comprehensive interoperability, facilitating phased upgrades to system security and addressing a significant security vulnerability that has persisted in the field of building automation for many years. Furthermore, the one-click approval method developed by Delta streamlines the management of network devices.

enteliWEB system management platform facilitates centralized management of buildings
The BMS system at the ExxonMobil Daya Bay Research and Development Center utilizes Delta enteliWEB software, allowing for equipment management from anywhere, centralized monitoring of building operations, and real-time collection of equipment energy source data. A user-friendly tool, it features customizable dashboards for any user needs, making the powerful capabilities of smart buildings easily accessible.
