Insights into the application trends of AI from global exhibitions
Text by NBDMD 2024/08

With the rapid development of technology, AI (Artificial Intelligence) is becoming a key driving factor for progress in modern society. Through recent global exhibitions showcasing innovation, we explore emerging AI applications and how they are leading the transformation of various industries.

Mobile World Congress 2024 (MWC 2024): AI SoCs (System on Chips) enhance terminal AI computing power
MWC 2024 is becoming a stage for AI innovation. Through the exhibition’s showcases, AI has been integrating into various products from smartphones to health devices. It is predicted that every device interacting in smart cities will be powered by AI.

Qualcomm and MediaTek presented AI directly embedded into connectivity modules and 5G chips, completely changing the data processing and performance limits of terminal devices. Among them, the Qualcomm Snapdragon X80 5G baseband chip combines AI with 5G Advanced to optimize telecommunications devices, thereby improving network speed and user experience. Qualcomm FastConnect 7900 is the first Wi-Fi 7 system that supports AI optimization, integrating Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Ultra-wideband technology into one chip. One of its biggest challenges is compressing complex AI models. In the past, chips could only carry a few AI models, but FastConnect 7900 carries over 75 pre-optimized AI models, improving AI inference speed by up to 4 times and providing users with better and faster results.

The MediaTek Dimensity 9300 breaks through the current market situation of mostly software-generated AI engines. It features the world's first hardware-based generative AI engine that supports a wide range of large language models (LLM). On-device generative AI provides users with multimodal experiences including text, images, music, and more, without requiring an internet connection. Compared to software-based generative AI, On-device generative AI saves significant computational resources and reduces cybersecurity risks by eliminating the need for backend internet connectivity.MWC, which has always been the main stage for telecommunications companies, was completely dominated by the AI trend in 2024.

Smart City Expo World Congress 2023: AI assists in the implementation of digital twin cities
Centered around "The New Urban Era," the exhibition showcased eight main themes that highlight the potential of AI in resource management, improving public services, and promoting more inclusive urban environments. The exhibition also recognized award-winning projects that successfully integrate AI to address urban challenges.

Among award-winning projects, Tampere, a city in Finland, has received the Enabling Technologies Award for its use of Metaverse Vision 2040 as a blueprint for urban planning and development. Tampere focuses on education, urban living environments, and social well-being, and has established a foundation for fully digitalized city services through the Digitalization Program and Smart Tampere Ecosystem. In 2022, the city further developed an urban-scale digital twin platform, which utilizes data and insights for efficient analysis and decision-making. The project was recognized for its replicability and usability of the smart solutions. By integrating AI technology and prioritizing social value creation, Tampere showcases the diverse applications of smart technology, ranging from safety solutions to enterprise support.

COMPUTEX 2024: intensifying competition in AI PCs brings good news to consumers
The recently concluded COMPUTEX 2024, continuing the trends seen in recent exhibitions, showed that generative AI applications will play a more important role in content creation, design, and decision-making processes. In addition to advanced AI chips, NVIDIA showcased advanced AI planning, data center innovations, digital humans, advanced robotics, and Earth 2.0. It also collaborated with partners to build an ecosystem.

On the other hand, AI PCs are the hottest keyword at COMPUTEX 2024. While the leading processor manufacturers, AMD and Intel, are competing with each other, Qualcomm, originally a mobile phone company, is making breakthroughs with its Snapdragon NPU platform that spans automotive, mobile, and PC markets. The "X Elite" is the world's first AI PC processor platform that supports Microsoft Copilot+ computing requirements. Additionally, the collaboration between MediaTek and NVIDIA has expanded from mobile phones to laptop chips. These developments bring AI performance to the forefront for users, providing a personal AI agent that can execute tasks and take actions like a human upon receiving commands from users. This represents a foreseeable future.

From infrastructure to daily life, AI permeates every aspect of our lives. While hardware technology excels, innovative AI applications are propelling society toward a smarter future.
