Delta's micro computed tomography center launches
Text by EISBG 2023/03

Delta's micro computed tomography center was officially launched at Delta's Plant 5. This micro computed tomography (micro-CT) scanning system, combining power electronics and optical imaging technology, was independently developed by Delta and provided to academic and research institutions for non-profit scanning purposes, making this advanced imaging technology the cornerstone of research.  The advanced scanning equipment used includes DELabμCT-100, which won the Gold Quality Award of Taiwan Excellence Awards and Taiwan Excellence Gold Award, and DELabμCT-100X, a high-resolution desktop tomography scanner.  Due to the use of non-destructive CT and high-definition 3D imaging technology, the integrity of specimens and live animals can be maintained for experiments; the efficiency and precision of imaging are significantly improved. This system can be applied in a variety of fields, such as biology, paleontology, entomology, geology, materials science, and agronomy. In addition to enhancing research results, it can assist industry-academia-research units to train more professional researchers.

According to JJ Chang, President of Energy Infrastructure and Industrial Solutions Business Group (EISBG) of Delta, the DELab micro-CT scanning system features 3D imaging technology with a number of patents obtained and can clearly reproduce an internal microscopic image without destroying the sample. As such, the internal and external features of the sample can be observed from different angles without the need for time-consuming repeated sectioning and sampling.
Delta's micro computed tomography center is launched.

The DELab micro-CT scanning system can scan samples from 360 degrees and provides geometric and structural data, such as size, spatial coordinates, density, and porosity, with a resolution of up to 2 μm. Its non-destructive feature allows it to be used in live animal scanning to observe small animals' long-term reaction to drugs through diachronic analysis. Therefore, it has been recognized by industry-academia-research experts from the National Health Research Institutes, Industrial Technology Research Institute, National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium, National Museum of Natural Science, National Taiwan University,  National Tsing Hua University, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, National Cheng Kung University, National Chung Hsing University, and Chung Yuan Christian University.
