Promoting inter-generational communication and understanding
In the previous issue of our Employer Brand bimonthly, we explored the workplace characteristics of Gen Z colleagues and younger employees. With the rising number of aging workers, delayed retirement trends, and the arrival of a new generation of fresh graduates, today’s workplace has evolved into a “five-generation” environment, encompassing Baby Boomers, Generation X, Millennials (Generation Y), Gen Z, and the post-2000s generation.
In response, Delta Taiwan hosted an online thematic exhibition titled “Generational Exchange – Five-Generation Workplace: Embracing the New Normal,” aimed at helping employees understand the thinking patterns and communication styles of different generations. Through interactive online activities—such as “Guess Which Generation I Belong To”—employees were encouraged to approach inter-generational interaction with empathy and learn about the unique strengths of each generation.
Beyond understanding potential cultural and background differences, the exhibition emphasized the importance of“communication and understanding” among colleagues. It also shared practical communication tips, broken down into the following steps:
“Adjust your mindset – recognize internal biases”
“Empathize through observation – understand the other person’s perspective and motivation”
“Clarify the message – confirm the meaning with the other party again”
“Adapt your communication style – respond with empathy, using phrases like 'what do you think?' or 'how do you feel?' to guide the conversation”
“Use multiple communication channels – observe the other person’s preferred communication method”
By sharing insights into inter-generational communication challenges and strategies, we encourage every colleague to take the first step—starting with themselves—to overcome generational communication barriers and build a more inclusive, collaborative, and empathetic workplace.
Creating spaces for inter-generational dialogue and learning
Understanding begins with dialogue. At Delta, we actively promote inter-generational exchange around the globe, helping employees build meaningful connections and learn from one another.
In EMEA, we use culture and values-based initiatives to strengthen regional cohesion. The "Core Value Workshop" brings together employees from different generations and functions to explore how Delta’s values can be practiced in daily work. From the Netherlands to Turkey, and from the UK to Italy, these workshops deepen shared understanding and foster a sense of collective mission. Additionally, the "Delta Discoveries" lecture series focuses on career journeys and experiential sharing. A special session during International Women’s Day invited women from various generations to share their leadership paths and personal growth experiences, offering fresh perspectives and sparking collective inspiration.
In Thailand, informal platforms such as "Khanom Talks" and "Lunch Talks" provide opportunities for colleagues to share personal and professional stories. Furthermore, the "Cohesion Camp" goes a step further by using immersive team challenges to build trust and empathy. To support knowledge transfer, a mentorship program pairs employees across age groups for structured learning. This is complemented by a "Train-the-Trainer" model, which encourages all employees—regardless of tenure or background—to share their expertise, ensuring that knowledge flows freely across generations.Left & Top Right (Thailand): "Seed Trainer Program" and "Cross-Generational Mentorship Program" Right (EMEA):"Delta Discoveries" Series –International Women’s Day Special Lecture
One Delta, embracing generations
Our global team is working together to create a workplace where every generation can contribute, learn, and grow. These initiatives are more than just programs—they reflect our shared belief that generational diversity is a cornerstone of innovation, inclusion, and long-term success.
At Delta, we don’t just work side by side—we grow together. By listening, learning, and leading the future as one, we are building a stronger, more resilient company and shaping an inclusive future, hand in hand.Left: In Thailand, the "Cohesion Camp" was held to strengthen bonds and foster mutual understanding among team members.
