Breaking space constraints with Delta’s micro module data center in office building
Text by DGC 2023/12

Data centers are increasingly influencing the digital productivity of enterprises, and more and more enterprises need a high-quality data center close to their business to meet the data processing and interaction needs anytime and anywhere. Take the financial industry as an example, data centers have evolved from supporting to driving business roles, a case in point is the data center built by Delta for the headquarters of a securities company in Chengdu.

Common challenges of office buildings: height, load-bearing and space constraints
The securities company in Chengdu has 8 branches and 75 securities sales departments. With the rapid growth of its business, the infrastructure of the original headquarters computer room is outdated and can no longer bear the burden. The securities company put forward three basic demands: high reliability, green with low carbon, and fast construction.

Delta conducted a site survey and found two common problems in office buildings:
1. The net height under the beam of the office building is only 2.5 meters, and the load-bearing is limited. The traditional micro module data center is not applicable here.
2. The main computer room of the data center is on the 6th floor, but the outdoor unit of the air conditioner can only be installed on the 4th floor platform, and the negative drop must be overcome.

When architectural constraints cannot be changed, Delta’s “Micro-Dynamic-Cloud (MDC) Series” micro module can break through the obstacles and provide the data center with more possibilities for using its space. First of all, this series adopts a single-row cabinet design, which is more flexible and adaptable in office buildings than the traditional double-row cabinet micro module data center. As the product height is only 2 meters, the “single-row small size” can easily cope with various complex, diverse and irregular spaces.

Secondly, the installation location of the data center air conditioner's outdoor unit, the traditional solution requires a secondary heat exchange gas main engine because of the thermal back plate. This must be placed above the main computer room, which does not meet the floor constraints of the securities company. Delta’s “MDC Series” micro module uses a compressor/fluorine pump to provide power, and the outdoor unit of the air conditioner is equipped with low-temperature and extended components as standard. The installation height difference from the main computer room can reach 20 meters. Taking the office building as an example, it is equivalent to a negative drop of 6 floors.

In addition, Delta’s “MDC Series” micro module data center has three characteristics:
1. High reliability: It meets the national standard “GB50174-A, B, C” three-level construction — B level and above are equivalent to Tier3 highly reliable UPS — the infrastructure will not cause the electronic information system to be interrupted due to equipment failure, ensuring uninterrupted operation.
2. Green and low carbon: PUE≤1.2, better than the national policy PUE≤1.4, through intelligently combined dynamic cooling, a fluorine pump and an air conditioner outdoor unit, with real-time temperature monitoring for intelligent analysis and decision-making.
3. Fast construction: More than 90% of the whole prefabricated production, bringing faster and more efficient construction efficiency than ordinary micro modules, and accelerating the return on investment for data centers.

With a “new force in the micro module world” that meets high reliability, energy saving, and high efficiency, enterprise-level users can easily set up data centers in office buildings and accelerate the improvement of their business efficiency.
