Delta was invited to speak at the Green Energy Forum during the summit, making it the only high-tech Taiwanese company to speak on stage at the forum. Delta shared its experiences on achieving the Climate Group's RE100 and EV100 initiatives, actively implementing energy-saving and carbon reduction measures, and creating new business opportunities in energy management and electric vehicle solutions. Ms. Shan-Shan Guo, chief brand officer of Delta, delivered a speech titled "Realizing a Renewable and Sustainable Future," sharing Delta’s experience in developing various low-carbon solutions with core energy-saving technologies and promoting them to the international community.
Ms. Shan-Shan Guo, chief brand officer of Delta, highlights Delta's long-term investment in the electric vehicle field since 2008, demonstrating the company's commitment to green energy opportunities in response to a question from the forum moderator Mr. Sam Kimmins, director of energy at the Climate Group.
Guo stated that to achieve our RE100 target, with a current success rate of 63%, Delta leverages our technology in energy management and energy storage system solutions to overcome barriers and seize business opportunities. These opportunities include: using Delta’s energy storage system to adjust supply and demand and increase the RE ratio; self-built solar power plants in Japan that sell renewable electricity certificates with Delta's solutions. In response to Taiwan’s renewable electricity market and the global 24/7 carbon free electricity trend, Delta has developed a power matching software to optimize the matching and decision-making of renewable electricity. Through innovation and collective climate action, we are committed to realizing a Net Zero future.
As one of the founding partners of the We Mean Business Coalition, the Climate Group plays a leading role in low-carbon international initiatives, aligning with Delta's efforts towards environmental sustainability. In 2018, Delta joined the Climate Group's international electric vehicle initiative, EV100, becoming the first electric vehicle charging infrastructure company to do so. Apart from committing to universal charging facilities and transitioning to 100% electric vehicles by 2030, Delta aims to leverage its industry experience to make a positive impact on the future of low-carbon transportation at the corporate level, while also promoting business development. In 2021, Delta joined the Climate Group's RE100 initiative, collaborating with over 400 member companies globally to face challenges, explore opportunities, and participate in relevant policy-making.
As of 2022, 63% of Delta's global locations are powered by renewable electricity, reflecting ongoing efforts to create business opportunities within the RE100 trend.
Delta has long been committed to addressing climate change and global warming issues, actively aligning with international initiatives. In 2021, Delta achieved its science-based target (SBT) of a 56.6% decrease in carbon intensity four years ahead of the original 2025 schedule, with a carbon intensity reduction of 71%. Building on this experience, Delta commits to achieving RE100 and carbon neutrality for its global locations by 2030. This involves continuing to expand solar photovoltaic systems at manufacturing plants, developing related solutions, increasing the use of renewable energy, and employing practices such as energy conservation, purchasing renewable energy certificates (RECs), and direct purchase of green electricity.
In 2022, Delta further aligned with the global path to limit global warming to 1.5°C by setting a long-term strategy and target to achieve SBT Net-zero for all global locations by 2050, becoming the first company in Asia's high-tech hardware equipment industry to pass the SBTi’s Net-zero target review. Delta's medium and long-term goals include a 90% reduction in emissions for Scope 1+2 and a 25% reduction for Scope 3 by 2030, based on the 2021 baseline year. By 2050, Delta aims to achieve a 90% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions for Scope 1+2+3, relative to the 2021 baseline year.
To confront the challenges of reducing emissions for Scope 3, Delta has completed the inventory of emissions for all categories (15 in total) within Scope 3 and demands its tier 1 suppliers to meet the ISO14064-1 greenhouse gas emissions standard by 2025. In terms of assisting customers in carbon reduction, from 2010 to 2022, Delta's shipment of energy-efficient products and solutions has cumulatively helped customers save about 39.9 billion kWh of electricity globally, which is equivalent to reducing approximately 21.05 million metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions. Delta also calculates the manufacturing carbon footprint for nearly 60 customers participating in the CDP supply chain program each year, while providing energy-saving technology and carbon reduction benefits to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
