Delta’s MOOV series charging solutions accelerate full automation for AGVs and robots
Text by PSBG 2024/08
As technologies evolve, the landscape of manufacturing and logistics rapidly shifts from traditional labor-intensive practices to automation-centric processes. This leads to changes in the technology, sustainability, and efficiency of machines and equipment, which drive the need for more efficient and automated battery charging solutions. This issue’s “IoT Smart Solutions” introduces global success cases featuring Delta’s MOOVbase Modular Charger and MOOVair Wireless Charging Solutions, and highlights how Delta has leveraged its strengths from over 50 years of customization experience in industrial power supplies to accelerate progress for various industry partners.

MOOVbase Modular Charger: Delta’s first product for the AGV market
The Modular Charger MOOVbase series features 1-phase and 3-phase models and offers exceptional flexibility and efficiency for charging industrial AGVs. It is easy to accommodate increased charging demands with additional power modules. The Ethernet connection and fleet managers can remotely monitor and control devices, allowing all data to be easily integrated into existing warehouse systems.
The MOOVbase Modular Charging series features 1-phase and 3-phase models, offering flexibility and different power with high efficiency.

A world-leading e-commerce giant deploys its self-made Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) in its distribution centers. To optimize operational efficiency and reduce labor costs, the company has adopted AGVs extensively. To enhance the charging efficiency of these AGVs, the company worked with Delta to adopt the MOOVbase Series’ 3-phase, 6kW Modular Charger. The decision to choose Delta was driven not only by stable supply and production flexibility but also by the model's high-efficiency rapid charging capabilities and adherence to stringent safety standards, meeting the customer's expectations. In addition, its compact design fulfills the installation requirements of the customer's vehicles.
30,000 MOOVbase Modular Chargers are supporting a fleet of an estimated 500,000 AGVs for a world-leading e-commerce company.

MOOVair 01: the world’s first 1kW wireless battery charging system
After the success of the MOOVbase Series, Delta launched the MOOVair 01, the world’s first 1kW wireless charging system, in 2021. This cutting-edge innovation achieves more than 93% wall-to battery efficiency within a gap of up to 20 mm. The MOOVair 01 can be integrated into any vehicle with any battery type including Li-ion batteries of 24V/ 36V/ 48V and meets high safety standards. The MOOVair wireless technology also eliminates the need for maintenance of connector wear-and-tear, an attractive benefit for end-users.

After the launch of the MOOVair 01, ServisControl s.r.o., an AGV/AMR developer and manufacturer in the Czech Republic, proactively approached Delta for collaboration. The company cited the MOOVair 01's ability to significantly reduce maintenance costs and its impressive 93% energy efficiency as key factors in their decision. They integrated the MOOVair 01 into their production of platform vehicles, lifting AGVs, and towing vehicles, enabling fully autonomous equipment operation that aligns with their requirements for energy efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

In addition to its application on AGVs, wireless charging has aroused interest from robotic companies as well. Oversonic Company focuses on cognitive humanoid robots. Its new humanoid robot Robee, leverages AI for moving around autonomously and implementing complex manufacturing tasks. To achieve fully autonomous operation and charging while ensuring safety and stability for Robee, Oversonic worked with Delta to install the MOOVair 01, whose lightweight allows the robots to move as fast and smoothly as possible.

MOOVair family: the widest wireless charging system portfolio worldwide
So far, the MOOVair series features 1kW, 3.3kW, 10kW and 30kW models. This series is also the first to have the 30kW wireless charging solution safety approved for US (MET and FCC) and Europe CE. The MOOVair 30 delivers 95% energy efficiency within a gap of up to 150 mm, allowing it to work reliably in harsh environments, and making it suitable for global producers of larger AGVs and logistic trucks.

Neumaier, a German company that produces mechatronic vehicles and systems for intralogistics, has integrated the MOOVair 30 into its fully automated tow truck. Neumaier’s representatives have highlighted the features of the MOOVair 30, including easy integration, high quality, IP69 protection and the groundbreaking technology of Pad-to-Pad Link (PPL). This patented communication technology was developed exclusively by Delta to solve the cross-talk issue of WIFI devices, and ensure undisturbed communication between the primary unit and the secondary unit. Unlike other communication solutions, such as IR, the PPL is immune to dirt and dust, and suitable for applications in harsh environments.

The future development of wireless charging solutions
As more logistics operators begin to adopt large-scale unmanned vehicles, the wireless charging sector continues to hold significant potential. Delta plans to continuously update and expand its MOOVair series products in the future. Additionally, automation is gaining ground in non-logistics sectors. In agriculture, equipment must operate effectively in harsh and dirty environments such as fields and ranches. Delta's wireless charging systems, with their IP65 high dust and water resistance rating, offer a distinct advantage for operations in challenging environments. As a result, Delta has collaborated with industry partners to integrate these systems into agricultural AGVs.

So far, many clients are discussing further applications of the MOOVair to autonomous delivery vehicles, drones, and more devices in various industries. Leveraging state-of-the-art technology and unwavering commitment to high quality, Delta has already won the trust of many players in the AGV market and will reach out to more clients in new fields in the future.
