2026 Delta Cup International Solar Building Design Competition launches

The launch ceremony for the 2026 Delta Cup International Solar Building Design Competition, themed “Sunlight · Environmental Coexistence,” along with the awards ceremony for the 2025 competition, was held in Beijing. This year’s competition centers on two design briefs: Beijing University of Technology's Youth Vitality Center and Xining Suburban Eco-Lodging Station, Qinghai Province. It brings together expertise from industry, academia, and research to explore sustainable development pathways for the harmonious integration of architecture and nature. The event also featured the 2025 Delta Cup awards ceremony. Under the theme “Sunshine · Urban Renewal,” first prizes were awarded to North China University of Technology and Shenzhen University. Representatives from the organizing entities of the competition, including China Construction Technology Consulting Group Co., Ltd. , China Architecture Design & Research Group, Delta Group, as well as leading experts such as Academician Cui Kai, attended the event, injecting strong momentum into the green and low-carbon transition of the architecture sector and the advancement of ecological civilization.

Eason Chen, Director of Delta China Philanthropic Affairs Department, pointed out that this year’s theme, “Sunshine · Environmental Coexistence,” precisely addressed the core demands of the global response to climate change and the advancement of a green, low-carbon transition. It closely aligns with Delta’s operating mission of providing innovative, clean and energy-efficient solutions for a better tomorrow.

The launch meeting also included the award ceremony for the 2025 competition. The competition focused on the urban renewal of Huguosi Street and the renewal of Blast Furnace No. 2 at the Beijing Shougang Park. The works "Breaking Boundaries · The Rebirth of Huguosi Temple Fair" by North China University of Technology and "Vertical Farm & Photosynthetic Furnace" by Shenzhen University performed outstandingly in terms of architectural style preservation, building function renewal, and low-carbon technology application. The two teams won high recognition from the judges and each received one first prize.

The Delta Cup competition has been successfully held for 14 sessions, with more than 10,000 teams from around the world having participated. The competition themes covered a variety of fields, including new rural development, post-disaster reconstruction, zero-carbon communities, urban renewal, preschool education, and eldercare institutions, all corresponding with social issues of the time. The competition emphasizes practical implementation of its results, and to date, seven competition projects have been put into use.
More than 120 guests, faculty members, students, and media representatives attended the launch ceremony of the 2026 Delta Cup.
