Text by China Philanthropic Affairs Department 2026/02

Under the theme "Becoming the Sun," the 20th Anniversary Summit of the Delta Cup International Solar Building Design Competition was successfully held in Beijing. Over the past twenty years, the competition has grown into a global powerhouse for sustainable design, attracting 12,132 teams from over 90 countries. With 2,636 valid entries submitted and 7 winning designs realized as physical buildings, the competition continues to inject new momentum into the industry’s pursuit of Dual Carbon goals.

The 20th Anniversary Summit of the Delta Cup, themed "Becoming the Sun," convenes in Beijing.

During the opening ceremony, Shi Dinghuan, former Counselor of the State Council and Chairman of the Chinese Renewable Energy Institute, noted that the Delta Cup has been instrumental in demonstrating how renewable energy can be integrated into every facet of life. He emphasized that the competition has not only fostered international cooperation but has also showcased China’s significant achievements and contributions to global green development.

Bruce Cheng, Delta’s Founder and Honorary Chairman, reflected that for twenty years, the Delta Cup has invited world-renowned architects to serve as judges, encouraging public participation in designing buildings that harmonize energy efficiency with human comfort. I am deeply grateful to all the colleagues and partners who have supported this vision, helping us cultivate countless talents in the green building sector.

Delta’s Chief Brand Officer, Shan-Shan Guo, highlighted the "heritage" aspect of the competition. She observed that the Delta Cup has witnessed a true passing of the torch; participants who first entered as students are now returning as professors, leading their own students into the competition. This enduring cycle of mentorship and passion was the original vision shared by Bruce Cheng two decades ago.

In recognition of Delta’s extraordinary contributions, the organizers presented the company with honorary medals titled "20 Years of Partnership: Cornerstone of Radiance" and " 20 Years of Partnership: Pursuit of Dreams."

The summit also saw the release of a 20th-anniversary theme film, Becoming the Sun. By sharing the personal stories of three individuals who grew alongside the competition, the film illustrates the twenty-year journey of nurturing talent and spreading sustainable values, capturing the touching spirit of "passing the torch" to the next generation.

The event was attended by a distinguished group of industry leaders, including Liu Zhihong (Vice President, China Construction Technology Group), Li Cundong (Chairman, China Architecture Design & Research Group), Chai Wenzhong (Vice President, China Association of Building Energy Efficiency), and Dr. Ken Yeang (Honorary Fellow of the American Institute of Architects, and winner of the 2016 Liang Sicheng Architecture Prize).
