Delta powers India’s first solar-powered EV charging station with second-life battery integration
Text by DIN 2025/08

Delta Electronics India has played a pivotal role in the launch of India’s first solar-powered electric vehicle (EV) charging station integrated with second-life battery storage. Located at the BESCOM EV Hub near Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru, this milestone project showcases Delta’s continued commitment to driving sustainable mobility infrastructure in India.

The innovative charging station is part of the Renewable Energy to Electric Vehicle (RE2EV) project, supported by BESCOM, DULT, and GIZ India under the Green Urban Mobility Innovation Living Lab framework. It represents a unique confluence of solar energy, energy storage, and high-performance EV charging—an ecosystem that aligns with India's vision for clean energy and circular economy.

Delta Electronics India has supplied and commissioned all nine DC fast chargers at the hub—five 50kW units and four 30kW units. Known for their energy efficiency, reliability, and scalable design, Delta’s chargers are well-suited for high-demand public infrastructure and fleet operations.Five units of 50kW DC fast chargers.

This project further reinforces Delta’s leadership in offering Made-in-India, future-ready EV charging solutions tailored to the country’s evolving mobility needs. By supporting fast, clean, and reliable EV charging, Delta is not only accelerating electric mobility adoption but also helping reduce dependence on the grid through smart, decentralized infrastructure.

What makes this project particularly unique is its integration of a 45 kWp rooftop solar PV system with a 100 kWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) made from repurposed EV batteries. These second-life batteries are no longer suited for vehicles but still retain significant storage capability — an ideal solution for supporting clean charging without overloading the power grid. The technology enables seamless coordination between solar generation, storage, and charging — a real-world showcase of Delta’s vision for sustainable innovation and energy reuse.

With the RE2EV pilot, Delta continues to demonstrate the transformative potential of public-private collaboration. By working alongside BESCOM, DULT, and GIZ India, Delta has helped bring to life a replicable model of off-grid charging infrastructure—ideal for airports, logistics hubs, and urban corridors.

As India scales up its EV adoption, Delta remains at the forefront, enabling infrastructure that is clean, cost-effective, and scalable—while supporting national goals for net-zero emissions and smart cities.Ms. Manjula Girish – Business Head, EVCS & PVI, Delta Electronics India(Left) and Mr. Vijay Rao - AGM, BESCOM(Right).
