Taiwan Railways' new tourist train “Haifeng” (sea breeze) has embarked on its dreamy journey, with Delta's BIC Bluetooth wireless lighting solution creating unprecedented highlights for this enchanting train. On November 5, Taiwan Railways unveiled the Haifeng, which has been designed around the themes of affordable luxury and romance. The exterior showcases a dreamy teal color, complemented by fashionable interior design and comfortable rounded furniture. Notably, it's the first to implement Delta's BIC Bluetooth wireless lighting control across all four carriages. This not only creates stunning interior aesthetics but also provides passengers with dynamic lighting changes, offering a fresh and unique travel experience unlike any before.

The Haifeng is built from an EMU500 electric multiple unit train, inspired by Taiwan's coastal waters, and painted in a calming teal. Enhancing this design concept, beyond the entire train's distinctive “dreamy teal color” exterior that evokes the blue-green sea, the ceiling's lighting control uses colored LED fade-in and fade-out effects to create the sensation of sea breezes flowing through. Complementing the changing mountain and ocean scenery across the four seasons, the cabin lighting system subtly adjusts the color and brightness settings every hour. These scheduled transitions are extremely gentle and seamless, mimicking natural daylight. Passengers inside can experience changes in light and color as if they were outdoors, enjoying the scenery through large floor-to-ceiling windows and feeling immersed in nature.

Lighting designer Lin Ching-Yu is very excited to be part of this project. "Previously, it was almost impossible to achieve such complex lighting control in train carriages, as the limited space made it difficult to install wiring," says designer Lin, pointing to the thin walls inside the carriage. "Delta's BIC Bluetooth wireless control minimizes control components and eliminates the need for control wiring, giving me great creative freedom in design." Designer Lin, who has many creative ideas for Haifeng’s lighting design concept, is immensely pleased and impressed by the precise settings of Delta’s lighting control, which can synchronize timing across multiple carriages while maintaining the flexibility to set individual carriage scenes independently.
The Haifeng will make its maiden voyage on December 7th, with its first seasonal route running between Hsinchu and Taichung along the coastal line, offering passengers beautiful mountain and ocean views. With a mellow dreamy teal color as its main theme, the interior design features creative custom seating, complemented by carefully designed lighting changes, panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows, and custom-made desserts and cuisine. This unique combination is sure to attract both domestic and international tourists to ride the Haifeng and experience a memorable journey, where ambient lighting harmonizes naturally with the surrounding landscape.
