Text by DET 2024/02

Delta's Smart Farm, integrating renewable energy solutions, has won the Thailand Energy Awards 2023 in the Innovation in Alternative Energy category. Dr. Prasert Sinsukprasert, the Permanent Secretary of Energy, Ministry of Energy, presented the Thailand Energy Awards 2023 to Delta, recognizing its outstanding Smart Farm with renewable energy project. This Smart Farm project is a collaborative effort between Delta (Thailand), the Thailand Board of Investment (BOI), the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT), and Phraeksa Municipality. It is dedicated to the Ngopa Paradise Community Enterprise as a three-year pilot community enterprise and pioneer solution in the country. By training the local farmers in smart farming, the project is expected to become a viable business model to grow agricultural products, unaffected by weather conditions, with improved quality and standardization.

Delta (Thailand) President Mr. Jackie Chang accepted the Thailand Energy Award on behalf of the company.

IoT-driven technologies for enhanced efficiency and sustainability
Delta’s Smart Farm employs IoT-driven technologies, including the Delta Automation solution featuring VTScada facility management software and Delta’s programmable logic controllers (PLC), to ensure precision control of agricultural conditions. The microclimate system adjusts the temperature, airflow and lighting to provide the ideal environment and economize on electricity consumption. Compared with common methods requiring 40-45 days for growth, Delta’s Smart Farm allows harvesting in just 35 days with more consistent weight and quality. This enhances farming efficiency and crop productivity. In addition, Delta features an integrated 5.4 kWp solar rooftop system and reverse osmosis water treatment system for wastewater reuse. This not only provides clean and sustainable energy but also has resulted in significant environmental benefits. The implementation has led to outstanding annual savings of up to 7,800 kWh (7.8 MWh) and the avoidance of approximately 4 tons of CO2 emissions per year.

IoT-powered Delta Smart Farm optimizes environment, slashing growth time and boosting yield with consistent quality.
